Important Things to Do After Your Wedding Day

It was all you could have imagined! This new chapter can be started with your spouse. You and your spouse can finally begin this new chapter together.

Here are some essential tasks and memorable moments to cherish as you step into this exciting chapter of your lives together.

How to Clean and Preserve Your Dress

Your love for your wedding gown shouldn’t stop after the big event. Your dress was likely exposed to everything during the celebration: food, champagne, frosting, dirt, sweat, and makeup. If you don’t treat them properly, hidden stains like deodorant or hairspray can appear over time.

Get your dress cleaned and preserved to ensure it stays in good condition for years to come. This way it can become a treasured family heirloom. Once it has been preserved, store the box in a safe place away from moisture and sunlight, such as a closet, under a bed, or in your attic or basement.

Change Your Last Name

You’ve now changed your last name (if you want to!) It’s now time to ensure that all your accounts are in sync, including your social security card, driver’s license, passports, credit cards, and voter registration.

TIP: Order a few copies of your marriage certificate to send to any organizations that require proof of name change.

If you’re going on honeymoon, don’t send your passport in yet. You may have to wait up to four weeks for your passport to be returned.

Send Thank You Notes

Write thank-you notes to your guests within two months after your wedding. This small gesture will have a big impact on the people who traveled far and wide to celebrate your wedding and shower you with love and gifts.

You and your partner can work together on these projects for an hour or so each night until you are finished. Writer’s block? Try this formula: thank the person, describe what they gave you, and how you plan to use it. You can thank them for not only the gift but also for sharing your special day and for their generosity. Name the exact gift you received and make sure to confirm the amount of money so that they can feel confident.
